Monday at Bluesfest

Bob Dylan Day at Bluesfest (but more on that later)

one of the great innovations at Bluesfest is the way you can sit at these undercover tables and still see and hear the shows

Like Michelle Shocked - who set up her little campfire…

so she could tell lots of campfire stories

and belt out a song or two.

The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band

also shared stories

and belted out a few numbers

Clare Bowditch

was delightful

Saltwater Band

mixed traditional and modern music.

BB and the Blues Shacks

were channelling B B King

One of the great things about Bluesfest is that I got to see for the first time one of my all time favourites…

Buffy Sainte-Marie

who with three fellow native americans

gave us a great set that featured “Universal Soldier” as a tribute to Anzac day

Another band that I have LP records of…

Osibisa

even if most of the musicians are far too young to have been on those LPs

their sound is still fantastic

I last saw these guys at the Hordern Pavilion in about 1973

Ian Anderson’s flute playing is as manic as ever

as were his general antics

Martin Barre is still one of the great rock guitar players

John O’Hara, David Goodier, Ian Anderson, Martin Barre and Doane Perry are…

one of my favourite bands of all time - Jethro Tull

who I enjoyed in pereference to…

who I understand could be heard but not seen

so here are a few more backstage pix…

and for some it was just a bit too much

and the rain came on Monday night - which must be why they needed the extra day - to ensure that at least one day was wet in keeping with Bluesfest tradition.
